Social Committee
2015 was another busy year for the social team, organising and assisting with the many activities enjoyed by our Church family and friends. We have been kept very busy, from our new minister’s installation service in January, through to the Christmas Tree Festival in December.
February saw the annual pancake evening, this year with a special ‘pancake/beetle drive’ devised by Alison Boulter, the vestry group helping us to organise the evening. During Lent, soup and cheese lunches were held on Sundays and soup served during the Lent course on Mondays. Maundy Thursday saw us providing fish and chip suppers for about 40 people before the 8 pm service. We hope to improve on the efficiency of this, this year!
As Whitchurch were unable to host the early morning breakfast on Easter Sunday, we were asked to step in with our full English breakfast for those attending the dawn vigil at Whitchurch Down.
This year the social committee provided the catering for some of the ‘Friends’ events, refreshments at the Summer Fete and the Agincourt dinner in October.
In July it was the Vicarage BBQ, hosted by Chris and Sarah, with the team plus helpers providing the cooking and the bar.
Another fantastic Christmas Tree Festival this year, starting on 27 November and running until Sunday 6 December. Fabulous cakes, soup lunches, etc were provided each day and gave us all an opportunity to talk to the many visitors from Tavistock and further afield.
Very many thanks to all those who have worked so hard to make this another successful year for the parish social group, especially Judy, Pat, Lesley, Sue and Julia. We are always eager to have new helpers join us and Gill Leonard-Williams kindly boosted the cooks numbers this year for some events. 2016 is already proving to be equally as busy so please give it some thought and contact Cathy Sherlock on 07809 043979.
